AZ on Simeulue and August / September 2019 antics

by dy.by_mbr, October 3, 2019

The start of August had come in a continuing fashion of out of season south winds white capping our ocean and making us hunt deeper, fueling the cars most mornings from mid month onwards.

The first week or so we had a few good sessions at the peak before the wind got up and on some smaller days, we scored really good monkey tress with a few hectic sections smashing a couple of guests showing them its power and a trip or 2 two to the hospital for some stitches.

By the 15th though the south winds were pretty havoc and with a storm to boot made for interesting times, with small swell and south winds our options were limited to onshore swell magnets, guests wanting to surf Teabags were sadly let down as the south wind had a grip and wasn’t changing soon.

Around the 22nd the swell had jumped and we took to the boat for some offshore options but the weather system was all over the place giving everyone a tight space between offshore clean to onshore blown out, swirling wind making on the spot a winner but also made it hard to beat the mind of the system we were dealing with as it was so changeable throughout the days, we made do with the surf on offer and as well did some touristy exploring of the island.

Moving to the end of August and into Sept the cars were clocking the klms as we had a secret spot on our radar scoring it most of the time, some times it was too big but this area has another good option up the road that handles the different tide and size better.

A couple of trips down south but the winds made it hard down there but we jagged a session at Thailand’s as well some fun ones at Alus Alus before the winds.

More action continued at our secret spot and everyone was loving this wave and getting some epic Aceh coffee to break up the drive home .

After days of this spot it was nice to surf a few cheeky wind windows at the Peak  for the dawny,

Around 19th 20th the peak and Enor were super fun and guest making the most of surfing local for a couple 4 hours sessions

Coming to the end of the month we have been back again at the secret spot most days only to get stopped by a flash flood as a bridge was too dangerous for us to cross so a couple of guests had bikes and we carried these through over a broken rusty walking bridge so they could score it to themselves.

Looking forward to October!

Just another couple months in the island ..Got to love it !
