We started off July with a big bang with clean perfect 5 to 8 foot Tbags. Aaron Kelly was waxing up his fresh 6’6 pulling into some bombs on his first day, also had the boys Ryan and Liam from San Clemente tackling some solid nugs and Ricky from the Sunny Coast testing out some of his fresh equipment he made RYPL Surfboards https://www.rypllab.com.au/surfboards
After scoring an epic day at Tbags the swell started to drop so we surfed locally north of Moon Beach at ‘The Peak’, ‘Inor beachie’ and ‘Monkey trees’. We lost a couple of surfboards during these sessions at ‘The Peak’ because Aaron and Ricky where boosting airs on the end sections. The fourth consecutive back to back swell leading on from June was on the build so we hit ‘Dylan’s Right’ to score some deep pits and wasn’t disappointed!
The next guests for MBR were boys from South Africa; Mikhail, Daniel, Evan and Tiaan they rocked up mid-July and straight into some epic waves. This group ended up surfing 12 different waves throughout their two weeks here ranging from Peak, Inor, Monkey trees, few novelty waves up north, Dylan’s, Thailand’s and a few secrets spots down south! The bet going with these boys was if anyone got a sick barrel they had to shave their heads into a mohawk. So one week into their trip on Tiaan’s birthday all the boys got a fresh cut. Towards the end of their trip the Indian Ocean brought some fierce swell and weather so Dylan’s was our option and managed to get into some nuggets. The swell slowly dropped out so the Peak and Monkey tree was nice 2-4 foot with minimal people in the water. We spent a day out on Mincao Island with our new guests snorkeling and surfing a novelty rock rebound wave. This is the most beautiful island and beach on Simuelue, the guests enjoyed lunch and reading a book with no one in sight!
