About Us

Moon Beach Resort is still being developed to meet the demands of our guests. Starting from our soft opening in
March 2013 we have continued to improve the resort facilities and will continue improving guests facilities through
years to come. Don was a builder working throughout Queensland during its early tourist development days of the
70's to the 90's. He built some of Queensland's most prestige resorts, including Hayman Island in the Whitsunday
group, the very exclusive Bedarra Island in the Dunk Island group and the Grand Hyatt Regency Coolum Beach on
the Sunshine Coast.

After visiting Indonesia on several holidays he moved to Indonesia in the mid 1990's as a construction manager,
working for various companies throughout Indonesia. In his free time, he was also working with coconut timber to
build windows, doors and furniture in West Java, and so was contacted by an international NGO who was looking to
build houses without relying on hardwood which could damage forests.  In December 2005 he was offered a
position with them on the remote Island of Simeulue Aceh, and was tasked with building 150 shelter houses on the
west coast of the Island using non-forest timber.   Working with the local community in a program in which 2 coconut
trees were planted for every one harvested, and using 4 Australian Lucas portable saw mills, approximately 1000
cubic meters of coconut timber was produced and 150 houses were built.

During this construction phase Don had time to appreciate the Islands natural beauty of pristine jungle, clean white
deserted sandy beaches with great waves and fishing and began to plan to build a top class exclusive resort. In
2007 the first part of the plan came to fruition with the purchase of one hector of beachfront land that is being
landscaped and developed to the standard of the exclusive resorts that Don worked on previously.  He is now
excited to share the beauty of the island with guests.
